EU president blasts “part-time Europeans”

In a Rome debate with other European heads he claimed leaders are putting too much stock in national opinion rather than working together to develop a “common European sense”.

One month before the UK’s Brexit vote the European Commission’s president Jean-Claude Juncker has blasted “part-time Europeans” in the union.

In a Rome debate with other European heads he claimed leaders are putting too much stock in national opinion rather than working together to develop a “common European sense”.

Juncker said: “We have full-time Europeans when it comes to taking, and we have part-time Europeans when it comes to giving.

“In former times, all those implied in the project were full-time Europeans. Now we have too many part-time Europeans.”

The EU referendum vote will be on 23 June.

In mortgage market proponents of a Brexit include John Charcol senior technical manager Ray Boulger who has branded being in the union a “complete waste of time”.

But lenders typically favour staying, as the heads of HSBC, Royal Bank of Scotland, Santander and Precise all plan on voting 'in'.
