The Society of Mortgage Professionals relaunches

The Society of Mortgage Professionals has unveiled a relaunch with the appointment of a cross-sector board of experts to represent the wider views and interests of the mortgage profession.

It has a new website containing good practice guides on second charge mortgages, bridging, protection and the Senior Managers & Certification Regime.

The new board is chaired by David Thomas who is joint managing partner of Chadney Bulgin.

Thomas said: “With the increasing dynamism and complexity of the mortgage market, this is the perfect time to relaunch the Society of Mortgage Professionals.

“I am hugely excited to be leading a board of talented mortgage professionals, and it is my aim that we deliver value to members at all stages of their career development.

“With almost 10,000 members we have a real opportunity to effect positive change in the sector, encouraging the highest professional standards and playing a key role in maintaining public trust.

“For many individuals, buying a property is the largest purchase they are likely to make in their life, so it is absolutely crucial they receive the highest quality advice from skilled professionals.

“By promoting continuous learning and development, the Society of Mortgage Professionals aims to ensure its members deliver exactly that.”

The board includes Liz Syms, chief executive of Connect For Intermediaries; Bob Hunt, chief executive of Paradigm Mortgage Services; and Dean Mirfin, technical director of KR Group.

Also, on the board are Marie Grundy, sales director of West One Loans; Esther Dijkstra, director of strategic partnerships at Lloyds Banking Group; and Carlos Thibaut chief executive of 360 Dot Net.

A good practice guide to later life mortgages and technology will be produced in early 2020.

The society will produce webinars and podcasts and will host several educational events across the country in Spring 2020.
